25 Oct 2019 – 15 March 2020
Opening in October 2019, Collectors and Collections seeks answers to the questions of how and by whom design is collected. How are design collections created and why do some design objects become sought-after collectibles? In addition to museum collections, there are many valuable Finnish collections of design objects that are not accessible to the public. This exhibition displays choice items from valuable private collections both in Finland. Along with rare items, the exhibition also focuses on utility objects. The collecting of everyday items has become a popular pastime, because almost anyone in Finland can begin collecting utility glassware of the mid-20th century, Moomin mugs or Arabia tableware. Collectors and Collections also addresses in straightforward terms the downside of the culture of collecting, forgeries of art and design objects.
