The participants of the ninth edition of the Helsinki Design Residency meet at the Design Museum on September 10. We invite everyone to take part in this open seminar that explores the theme of this year’s Design Residency ”Intelligences” through the lens of Design practice.
In the framework of the 2020 edition of the Helsinki Design Residency program, designers Maxim Spivakov (RU), Mikaela Steby Stenfalk (SE) and Mayumi Niiranen-Hisatomi (JP/FI) have been exploring how different, and unalike, ways of perceiving, thinking and acting are activated in and through design practice today. All the research projects explore the theme of the Helsinki Design Residency 2020, “Intelligences”. Read more about the projects here.
In respect of the circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic, the residency has been produced as a remote, online-based research for the first of its two phases this year. Likewise, the travel and participation of the designers and curatorial partners in the panel discussion will be realized in attention to developments in Finnish border policy. Information on this will be given closer to the event.
The Helsinki Design Residency is a cooperative production of Helsinki International Artist Programme – HIAP, Strelka Institute and Iaspis, the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s International Programme for Visual and Applied Artists in partnership with Design Museum Helsinki and Helsinki Design Week. The programme is supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, the Embassy of Finland in Moscow and the Finnish Institute in St. Petersburg.
