This year marks the centenary of the birth of Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985). Design Museum will celebrate the event with an exhibition that re-interprets the life and work of Wirkkala. The Korean exhibition curator Bora Hong approaches the theme from the perspectives of craft skills and work. “The most striking images of Wirkkala for me are his working hands doing different tasks using different materials & tools. I would like to celebrate his hands and to expand and reinterpret what ‘hand’ and ‘make’ means in the realm of contemporary art & design”, she stated.
In the exhibition Bora Hong has collaborated with the scenographer nonamenoshop and archivist Kinga Hamvai who will join her in the talk to discuss the process.
The talk will be kept in English on Saturday June 6th at 3PM.
Admission to this event is free of charge.
