In this tour, the three curators of the Intimacy exhibition, Professor Annamari Vänskä, post-doctoral researcher Jenni Hokka and PhD-researcher Natalia Särmäkari, give us a private tour of Design Museum’s new main exhibition. The exhibition ’Intimacy’ explores the intimate relationship between the body and the clothes we wear. It showcases the works of over 40 designers from the most prominent Finnish fashion designers to the more anonymous designers behind contemporary work uniforms and wearable technology.
On this Online Tour, the curator trio will walk us through different aspects of the main theme of the exhibition. They will answer questions like, how can fashion designers influence society for example through more socially responsible clothing? How has social media influenced the fashion world? And how are the human body and technology interlinked?
The Intimacy exhibition situates at the intersection of novel politicization and digital disruption of fashion. It updates our understanding of Finnish clothing and accessory design into the 2020s, exploring the intimate relationship between the body and the clothes we wear and introducing visitors to the creative design process, from initial sketches to the finished products.
