New Museum of Architecture and Design, formed through the merger of The Museum of Finnish Architecture, the Design Museum, and their collections, is coming to Helsinki.
After already merging at the beginning of 2024, both museums continue to prepare for this new chapter. The next few years will see museum operations continue through a joint programme at familiar locations, with the new museum building to be constructed in Helsinki’s South Harbour.
In the Utopia Now exhibition’s AD-museum room visitors can explore the history of the Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Design Museum, as well as the precise location and planning of the new museum building and follow the progress of the project.
In this room, visitors can sit down with the plans for the new museum building and develop their own future museum ideas by building and testing them with Legos on the museum’s site and as part of the cityscape.
The new Museum of Architecture and Design is envisioned as a human-sized museum, welcoming to all. Inside, the worlds of architecture and design will open up through experimentation, observation, and listening.
