Taking the Portuguese architect Fernando Lanhas’ life and work as a starting point, we will discuss concerns common to architecture and design regarding sustainability of materials and techniques. Also in discussion are the influences between countries and cultures, bringing together academic and practitioners views on the subject, including the Foundation “Instituto Marques da Silva”, who manages the architectural archives of Fernando Lanhas, and “MASSlab”, a Portuguese architecture firm involved in a major project in Helsinki.
Speakers
Professor Luís Urbano, professor of architecture in the University of Porto, as well as author, Vice-President of the Foundation Instituto Marques da Silva, and Director of “JACK – Journal on Architecture and Cinema”.
Diogo Sousa Rocha, co-founder of the architecture office Mass Lab, who recently won the Train Factory Mixed-Use Competition, an international competition in two stages whose main objective was to create a landmark for the city of Helsinki.
