The world’s largest design award, The Torsten & Wanja Söderberg Prize, was given in 2018 to the Icelandic-born designer Brynjar Sigurðarson (born 1986), who works in conceptual arts and crafts and unique design. Sigurðarson especially draws upon influences from Icelandic nature and local traditions, such as storytelling and the culture of fishing. While working on his Silent Village series, Sigurðarson spent a month in a fishing village learning a century-old web making technique which he went on to apply in furniture that he designed.
