Free entry is available for: Teachers and instructors preparing lessons (with a valid group booking), Educational groups* visiting with a teacher or instructor (advance notice required, includes all students in general upper secondary or vocational upper secondary education and training), Students in the field in relation to their studies by prior agreement, Friends of the Architecture and Design Museum, personal assistants, Support persons, and interpreters, Culture Companions and their clients, Kaikukortti holders, Rehabilitation groups and similar** (advance notice required), Finnish war veterans and asylum seekers, Journalists with a press card, Museum professionals with staff, ICOM, ICOMOS, or ICAM cards.

* Including: early childhood education and care, pre-primary education, primary and lower secondary education (basic education), general upper secondary or vocational upper secondary education and training, and groups in Basic Education of the Arts. Including also: Students in higher education with a teacher or instructor in relation to their studies, and liberal adult education groups adult education centres, folk high schools, summer universities, sports training centres, and learning centres.

** Including: Social and healthcare providers, well-being and health sector providers, and similar third sector providers that provide services related to mental health, peer support, employment, or integration, and whose whose target groups benefit from an admission free museum visit.

Free admission on the last Tuesday of the month from January to May and September to December, from 4 to 8 PM.

We welcome special groups to enjoy a quiet, peaceful, and admission free museum visit every last Tuesday morning of the month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Read more about the Quiet Tuesday Mornings here. 

Payment methods

We accept cash, debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). We also accept as admission payment the following vouchers: Edenred, Epassi and Smartum. You can also pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Please note that studded shoes are not allowed in the Architecture & Designmuseum premises. If you arrive in studded shoes, please ask the ticket office for shoe covers.

Guided tours

GUIDED TOURS FOR VISITORS

In Finnish: Tuesdays at the Building D at 5 pm and the Building A at 6 pm (except on Free Admission Tuesday nights when the audience tour is conducted in Plain Finnish, with Finnish Sign Language interpretation, or with Finnish audio description), and on Saturdays at the Building A at 1 pm and the Building D at 2 pm.

In English: On Saturdays at the Building A at 2 pm and the Building D at 3 pm (except on Saturdays when audience tours are conducted in Swedish or Russian), and on Free Admission Tuesday nights at the Building D at 7 pm.

Design Shop

Design Shop offers a wide range of Finnish and international design products including both classics and work by young designers. The shop also features products on a changing basis related to current exhibitions at the museum.

The Design Shop is open during the museumÂŽs opening hours.

Accessibility

The Architecture and Design Museum consists of two buildings: the Building A and the Building D. The Building A, formerly the Museum of Finnish Architecture, is located on Kasarmikatu, and the Building D, formerly the Design Museum, is on Korkeavuorenkatu.

The most accessible entrances are in the museum’s courtyard. The address is Ullanlinnankatu 4, 00130 Helsinki. The entrance to the Building D from Ullanlinnankatu is wheelchair accessible.

The museum courtyard has one parking space available for visitors. This parking space is recommended, for example, for visitors using wheelchairs. A parking permit can be obtained from the customer service desk for the duration of the visit.

The Building D has an accessible elevator. A wheelchair-accessible restroom is located on floor 0. There is no induction loop in the Building D.

Principles For a Safer Space

We at the Architecture & Designmuseum want to offer everyone a good museum experience and the chance to participate as themselves. We do not accept discrimination or harassment. We encourage people to learn and ask questions and to assume diversity as a starting point. We want to be a place where it is easy to come and everyone feels good. Our staff is there for you. Please notify us if you encounter inappropriate behaviour or want to give us other feedback. Together we can make the Architecture & Designmuseum a safer and more comfortable space for everyone.

Enquiries and rental of facilities

Designed by the architect Gustaf Nyström and dating from 1894, is an excellent venue for all kinds of events. Added value is provided by Architecture & Design Museum’s changing exhibitions and guided visits. The museum has years of experience of organizing events for businesses, organizations and private individuals. 

Lecture Space and Conference Room 

Museum’s Lecture Space and Conference Room can mainly be rented during the museum’s opening hours. Exhibition can also be hired upon separate agreement for events outside museum hours (6 p.m. – 10 p.m.). The museum is in the centre of Helsinki and is easily accessed.

Rental of facilities:
Lecture Space (70 m2, max. 75 persons) €400/3h and Conference Room (up to 16 persons) €300/3h. The price does not include VAT (25,5%).

Café

The museum’s fully licensed Taito CafĂ© seats 35 and is open to the public during museum hours. After closing at 6 p.m. refreshments can be served in other areas of the museum. The museum cafĂ© provides high-standard catering services planned according to the wishes of customers. Various events, such as cocktail parties and buffets, can be held in the exhibition and lobby spaces of the museum.

Exhibition spaces 

The exhibition spaces are on three floors: 

Basement level (gallery) 250m2, height 200–285 cm, max. 65 persons. Rental from €600 € (+VAT 25,5%)/3h.

First floor  (lobby), 250m2, height  360–410 cm, max. 180 persons. Rental from €700 € (+VAT 25,5%) /3h.

Second floor, 700m2, height 420–610 cm, max. 180 persons. Rental from €1800 (+VAT 25,5%) /3h.

Please note that the architecture of the museum’s temporary exhibitions may affect the number of persons allowed in the spaces concerned. 

The rental of facilities can be combined upon agreement with guided tours of Architecture & Design Museum’s exhibitions.
